Christmas 2012.

Not a creature was stirring...
Until these two got up!

Good news... Santa came!
Lily had asked Santa for Merida (From Brave) dress-up clothes.
Rory asked for a purple cape.

She was pretty excited that Santa brought it for her.
Lily also got the fancy dress she asked for, and Rory got a new version of our favorite dance game for the wii.
Who could resist???
Lily also got a watch, and by the end of the day could tell time on it.
Opening stockings... Rory modeling her new outfit from Auntie and her new sparkly shoes!
Yay! Sparkly chapstick!
Helping Mommy.
Lucy got some new toys.

Sweet LilyBug and Daddy's chance to play with his new light umbrella...

It was a very Merry Christmas spent with Grammy & Bumpa, playing with new toys, doing craft projects, watching movies and eating yummy food.

Oh, and there was also the girls' gift from Mommy & Daddy...

...More on this later!

We are so fortunate, and so thankful. Merry Christmas, everyone!!!

Caroling.

The families from our pool invited us to go caroling with them. It started out nicely enough, with all the kids singing nicely and posing for group pictures.

And the people we visited certainly seemed happy to see us.
Unfortunately, the evening ended with Lily falling down and bleeding and Rory throwing up repeatedly. We wish you a Merry Christmas, indeed!

Luckily for the girls, our buddy and neighborhood cruise director, Abby, organized more caroling in our neighborhood the following night. And unluckily for Mommy, I got Rory's germs and so I was home to receive the carolers!

Baking.

This year's baking extravaganza... We were down one Auntie (and her extra set of hands), so there are almost no pictures to document all of the careful measuring, pouring, mixing, cutting, frosting and sprinkling that went on. You'll just have to trust me.
But we did get one picture of the made-from-scratch-so-that-it-actually-tastes-good gingerbread house, our traditional army of gingerbread men, and our oh-so-pretty cut-outs. The girls' cookies are in the front, Rory's are on the left and Lily's on the right.

The front (The "h" didn't quite fit on the line):
And the back:
And the inside, showing Lily & Ms. Parrish, having Christmas together in matching dresses, while the chandelier gives off lots of light:
And I quote... "Ms. Parrish said we get to drink hot chocolate while we watch The Polar Express. She's the nicest teacher ever!!!"

Christmas Dance Class

It was holiday performance day at dance class. Check out Santa's cutest helper and her L-O-N-G legs! Seriously, she's so big and so cute, I can't handle it!

First they did a lyrical dance. (Lily's partner was absent, so she's dancing with Miss Charlene.)

And then they did a slightly hilarious tap number.

Merry Dance Class!

Swinging.

Santa's Little Helper.

Our very own elf... Yes, this was how she went to school today. (And those overalls are vintage, circa 1985!)

The Nutcracker.

One of Mommy's favorite Christmas events is going to see The Nutcracker. Lily went for the first time when she was 4. We took last year off, and this year decided that Rory was big enough and we would go again. It was a fancy, big girl, day out.
Outside the theatre.
Inside, in front of the big Christmas tree.

Lily was so excited, and remembered nearly the whole story. In fact, she remembered it so well that she was upset when things were slightly different. She still loved Clara the best. Rory was entranced throughout the performance. When I asked her at intermission what she thought, she told me, "It's pretty good." But at the end she was sad that it was all done. She loved Clara too. And she got a sparkly purple Nutcracker to keep in her room. I wasn't the least bit surprised that she picked the exact same one that Lily chose two years ago.

It was a beautiful afternoon with my girls, and especially given the events of the past week, I was so thankful and felt so fortunate to be able to make this memory with them. Mommy loves you so much, LilyBug and RoryRoo!

Dear Auntie.

This is in your lost package of Christmas gifts that didn't get to you before you left on your latest adventure. I love you!

Merry Christmas,
Lily
