Who let the dogs out?

The girls are hysterical. But that song will worm its way into your head and refuse to leave.

So, about that graduation.

Missing Lily's preschool graduation was the only downside of our grown-ups-only-getaway. We had a lovely time in Costa Rica, but our hearts ached on Wednesday, knowing what we were missing. But here's the thing, this trip was an award that Shawn won at work, and we couldn't NOT go, and we also didn't get to choose WHEN we went. And the bigger thing was that Lily neither knew nor cared what 'graduation' is. For her, it was another event at school where she wore a dress (not a cap and gown) and sang songs with her friends. And as an extra-special treat? GRAMMY WAS THERE! So it really didn't matter that Mommy and Daddy weren't.

And, she was willing to perform the pledge and her songs for us once we got home...

LilyBug, mommy & daddy are so proud of everything you have learned and accomplished these past two years. MUMPS has been such a wonderful, special, loving place for you to begin your education and you have loved being there so much. This makes us happier than you can imagine. We love you very much. And we promise that's the last graduation we'll miss!

Graduation day.
The all grown up 5 year old and the obstinate 2 YEAR OLD!Rory at graduation.
Class coming in.

Lily the graduate!
Pledge of allegiance.
Post graduation.

Graduation party and cookies!

Rory took it upon herself to entertain Lucy.

This email arrived one evening: "Rory. Swinging from Lily's closet rod & pulled it out of the wall...both ends...landing on her tush with a very surprised look on her precious face!"

Last day... Grammy's choice for lunch.
The girls had a great time, and didn't miss us at all. The only trouble was once we came home, when every. single. time. we tell Rory "No", she responds with "Gwammy LETS ME!" Hmm...

Crawfish Boil 2011

Every spring friends of ours have a "Crawfish Boil" in their backyard. It's a really lovely party. And the girls look forward to it like it's a national holiday. Not for the food, of course, because they are only interested in the cheese and crackers. Not the crawfish.
And this year, they felt a little shy to start off.
But there were lots of other kids to dance and play with. Which helps!
And balls and games.
And even Grammy, who was at our house that day!
And there was a "tiny dog!" that Rory loved.
Plus, did I mention the cupcakes??!!

Which Rory refused to share with Mommy!
When I asked a second time, she ran away!
Fun times, as always! Especially the post-cupcake-sugar-high-dance-party!

Love.

Shawn got to work the other day and pulled out a notepad that had been jotting some notes on at home. And found a small addition from Lily.
Sweet, sweet girl. She made her Daddy's day!

"High and Down"

We've started a new tradition, where at dinner each night we go around the table and say our best and worst thing for the day. We call it "High and Low". (We took this from a movie we saw a million years ago.) Lily seems to really enjoy it. But it cracks me up when she looks up and asks if we can do "High and.... um... down?"

End-of-Year School Picnic.

I can't believe a year went by so fast! Today was the end-of-the-year picnic at preschool. Here's our almost-graduate, wearing all her classmates' handprints.
One of the skills she mastered this year is swinging all by herself, and she couldn't wait to show us how high she can go. This is hilarious, because we see this almost every day at home, but I guess the school swings are special!
The other big trick that she really wanted to show us is this.

She has loved this little playhouse since our first visit to the school, nearly two years ago.
But this alligator see-saw is a new addition to the playground.
LIly was more than happy to show Rory how it works.

The kids all lined up to say the blessing before we ate.
Rory loves any event where she can pretend to be a big kid.
Lily loves any event where there is ice cream!
Her father's daughter... Lily was using the croquet mallets to hammer sticks.
The girls playing with bubbles.

This is Miss Amy, Lily's assistant teacher. And this is her teacher, Mrs. Crook. They have been wonderful and Lily has been so happy in their class.
Lily and her bucket of summer-fun goodies... a pinwheel, beach ball, bubbles, sand toys and even a kite!
Testing out her pinwheel.
Deciding what she could share with Rory (they settled on bubbles).
And finally, this is Lily with her friend Craig. Last week Lily came home from school and announced that "Craig told me he's going to marry me when we get big." Oh my...
