Digging with Daddy.

It was an exciting day at our house! Our two little girlie girls couldn't wait to change out of their dresses and play on the digger with Daddy!

Another Incredible Tea Party.

LilyBug, one of the things I love most about you is the way you so fully commit to things. What's the sense in having a party if you're not going to go all out?

Playgound Playgroup Again!

As it turned out, this was probably our last real playgroup after over four years of weekly meetings. These kids were Lily's first friends, and they have been Rory's too. And their mommies have become my friends. We've all been incredibly lucky. In the beginning, there were 12 kids. Over time, due to moves and school and schedules, the group has dwindled to 4 families, but younger siblings has brought the group back up to 7 kids. This fall, school schedules will keep us from being able to meet every week, so this day was the last time most of us got to meet. But we didn't realize it that day, and in any case, we had a wonderful time at a park with dear friends.

Rory thought it was a little bright out.

Rory, trying out a new swinging method.
Keeping up with the big girls.
Riding on an elephant.
Jumping.
Walking across the bridge.

Me too! Me too!
Climbing.
What's that??
Running down the nature trail.
Wait for me!

It was a really great morning.

New friend.

At the playground, Lily befriended another little girl. They ran around playing together for at least 45 minutes before Lily came running up to me and announced, "Mommy I made a new friend!" When I asked what the friend's name was, she had to run back and ask her!

When it was time to go home, Lily came over and told me, "My new friend's name is Taylor and she wants to come play at our house. So can you go give her Mommy the directions?" I said that we couldn't have her over right now but maybe another time. To which Lily gave me the mommy-you're-so-ridiculous-look and said, "No, not NOW. Another day."

And then turned to her new friend and said "You can come another day. Go talk to your mom about that." And then waved goodbye and walked to the car.

I love how simple it is to make new friends when you're four!

Fancy Nancy

Lily was sitting at the breakfast table one morning when she started a conversation about going to Amsterdam to visit Auntie. (We're planning to go in the spring.) She's very excited about the whole idea. Specifically, she wants to see a windmill, buy wooden shoes and sleep on the pull out couch at Auntie's apartment. And, she wants to go to Paris, to see the Eiffel Tower. We have discussed all of these things approximately 3,000 times since we found out that Auntie would be going abroad. But on this day, Lily had a new question. She turned to me very seriously after reviewing what we would do in Paris and asked, "And, is Fancy Nancy real? Because I really want to meet her!"

I love the way her mind works!

Squirrels

We do most of our grocery shopping at Tr*der J*e's and the girls really love the weekly trip. Lily in particular really likes pushing her own kid-sized cart and helping to pick out what we need. But now, it's an even more eagerly-anticipated trip. There is a stuffed squirrel, in a Hawaiian shirt, who is hidden somewhere in the store, and if you find the squirrel, you get to pick a prize out of the treasure chest. Lily found him today and was beyond excited to discover that she could get a lollypop!

Later that day, she turned to me and said, "So always remember Mommy: Squirrels have candy!" Wise words.

Playground Playgroup

After a busy summer, we finally got to have playgroup with our friends. On this day, we met at a park built on a former landfill. A chance to play and talk about where our garbage goes!

Plus, it was a really cool playground. Lily, Lillian and Emily had a fabulous time on these:And they played many, many rounds of "Sleeping Beauty":
And there was LOTS of climbing!

We tried and tried to get a picture of the three big girls - over four years since they became friends!

Silly girls!

We tried getting a group shot of the kids. But, we couldn't get them to all look in the same direction at the same time. And Vinny was really not interested in sitting with the girls.
But hey, at least he was showing off the back of this year's shirt!
And here's what it looked like behind the camera, as all the grown-ups tried to get the kids to look in the same direction!

Topsail 2010 - Last Night

On our last night, we went out once more to our favorite ice cream place. There's mini golf, games, music, fabulous ice cream and excellent people watching. And did I mention the really yummy ice cream?

And prizes! Lily & Rory each won a ball in the claw game.

And then we let the kids run off their sugar highs on the mini golf course.

Auntie Ann finally got a hug out of Rory, after trying all week!
