Topsail 2010 - Let's go to the Beach!

And we're off! It's the annual O'Brien Family trip to Topsail. The girls and I drove down with Auntie early in the day to get head start on all the beach fun.On the ride down, Lily happily watched Toy Story, while Rory read books.
When we arrived, we got right to checking things of our list of things to do. First, we had lunch at the bakery. Then we did some shopping in the gift shops, including The Beach Shop. We sat on the porch and rocked and smelled the ocean air.
Then we walked down the street to have our first beach ice cream!
And Rory finished off my cone, which we're counting as her 1st ice cream cone.

We think she liked it!

And then we went to see the turtles at the turtle hospital.
And then it was finally late enough to check in to our house, change into bathing suits and go see the beach!
Lily immediately wrote her name and drew herself in the sand.
And then made a run for the ocean.Rory took a few minutes to decide how she felt about the water.
But then Bumpa took both girls to dunk their toes.
And then Rory and Auntie had some fun jumping the waves.

And Daddy took them out past where the waves were breaking.

And by the end of the afternoon we had two Beach babies!
It was hard to keep either of them off the beach or out of the ocean for the rest of the week!

Lily, on Rory...

"Do you know what Rory's gonna say when she can really talk? (Pause) 'My mom wouldn't let me wear my crocs when I was 15 months old!'" (In my defense, they are still too big!)

"When Rory learns to speak, do you think she'll speak English or Spanish?"

Rory was having a rough morning of teething and I commented that we needed to get her out of the house, meaning go somewhere fun & distracting. But Lily got worried and tearful and gasped, "No! She's ours!"

Chilly Lunch.

After our morning at Marbles, we went out to lunch and ate outside on a covered patio. It was about 80 degrees outside, but that was a good 20 degrees cooler than it had been in about two weeks, so the girls felt a little cold. Well, Lily did, so she borrowed Auntie's sweater. And then mini-Lily insisted that she needed a sweater too. So she got Mommy's.

Marbles.

Of course, while Auntie was here, we also had to spend a day at Marbles....

Watching:
And splashing!!!

And trying out masks, of course.
Big fun!

"When I Grow Up"

The Bug is obsessed lately with being a grown up. She's going to be a Mommy, she tells us frequently. And the first thing she's going to do is get married. And I should remember to take her to a wedding dress store to buy her a dress when she gets big.

And, she's going to marry Auntie. And for their "moon trip", she'd like to go to Marbles.

A week of fun stuff with Auntie.

Auntie spent a week with us before we head to the beach and she leaves for Amsterdam. Lily wanted to do all their favorite things. And we did. There were lots of dance parties. Lots of dress up. Lots of playing doctor's office, tea party, baby Lily and "sick kitty". Lots of stories and snuggles. And lots of trips to our favorite places.

We went to the mall one day. First stop was the Leg* Store:

And then the bear store, of course:

We went on some rides, and had some lunch. And then burned of some extra energy, just running...

Another day we went to T*rget (who am I kidding - we were at T*rget at least three times this week!)
We were ladies who lunch:
Best week ever.

Summer by the Sea

For the last week of summer school, the theme was "Summer by the Sea". I think it was Lily's favorite week of all. She had her old teachers, Miss Maura & Miss Seroba, back, and a good mix of old and new friends. Plus, it sounded like they did a lot of fun activities. She did have one bad day, when she got stung by a "lellow jacket", but her teachers said she didn't even cry - just announced that "something bit me!" and then went back to playing once she had an ice pack. She's so brave at school!

Lily & Lillian walking into school with Miss Vivian:Coloring pages...

On the back of every one of those, she wrote her "fancy" name:
Oatmeal starfish:
Watercolor sea horse:
Windsock:
Rainbow fish:
Paper towel roll octopus:The t-shirt she made - the crab is made out of her handprints!Of course, she refuses to wear the shirt, because it's white and "White is NOT. one of my favorite colors!" At least I got a picture!
