First Haircut

Wasn't it just last week that I was talking about how much I love Lily's hair? How watching her blond curls bounce behind her brings tears to my eyes? Here she is a few days ago:

And here is what she looks like now...

What happened? Well, it may be hard to tell from the pictures (thank goodness!), but Lily decided that "I didn't want my hair to be SO. LONG."

She didn't tell me that at first though. First, she told me that she wanted to stay in her playroom while I pumped a bottle for Rory. And then she came into my room, with locks of blond hair stuck all over her jammies. Hair that she cut, with her own scissors (that are normally kept up high, out of reach) while Mommy left her unsupervised. She gave herself an interesting 'do - somewhere between Friends-style layers and a mullet. It's chin-length on both sides of her face, but still long and flowing in the back. At first, I thought we were going to have to cut it all off to even it out, but those curls that I love so much are doing a great job of camouflaging the damage.

After I cried, and then scolded, and then took the scissors away indefinitely, Lily finally admitted that she cut it and then told me about her hair being 'so long'.

Lessons learned:
1. Never leave scissors out.
2. Be very wary when Lily wants to be left alone.
3. Don't be surprised when history repeats itself - my mom was quick to point out that I did the exact same thing back in the day!
