Recent ridiculousness:

Daddy, upon seeing frosting all over Lily's face: Lily, you have a little something on your face.

Lily, disdainfully: Yeah, it's called cupcake!

Lily, after dinner: Can I have a cupcake?

Mommy pauses to consider what Lily has had to eat already that day.

Lily, forcefully: Say YES!

Lily, after overhearing Grammy & Mommy talking about installing a ceiling fan in the playroom: I don't know how we'll take down da light!"

Grammy: I'm sure your daddy could do that.

Lily: Yeah, my daddy is weally strong!

Lily, after asking Mommy to put her to bed, and then choosing a book to read: Actually, Daddy can put me to bed because he has funny voices!

Deep thoughts by Lily, Wednesday edition:

To Daddy: "It's weally windy out! If your car blows away, you won't have a car! And dat would be weally terrible."

A phrase I never thought I'd hear...

"Lily, we do not use our quesadilla as a tissue!"
-Daddy, at the dinner table.

Sweet Girls

What did you say???

Lily, at bed time, as she struggled a little to get her footie pajamas on all by herself: "Now, let me just get these situated."

Mommy, shocked: "Where did you learn that word?"

Lily, matter of fact: "When you said 'I need to get this situated'."

Well, duh mommy.

That's an option too...

Mommy, in the car today: "Lily, please don't pick your nose."
(Hey, it's allergy season and she's 3 - she cant help it!)

Lily: "Well, don't look at me!"

Silly, silly girl

Just in case anyone was worried that the big sister had lost her sense of humor:

She's still the same old goofball!

Spring Break '09 (Woo Hoo!)

For the 4th year in a row, Auntie was generous enough to spend her Spring Break with us. We had SUCH a fabulous time!

We celebrated Carolina's big win (Go Heels!) with a trip to Chapel Hill. This was Rory's first big outing, and, as expected, she slept through most of it. Luckily, Lily had fun, and we did manage to get a picture by the Old Well:

And Lily got to enjoy some cupcake deliciousness - which made the whole trip worth it!

Auntie read the girls a story on Lily's bed, where she captured some super-sweet cuddle time:

Friend sharing:
(Lily was letting Rory play with her beloved Rodeo and Leopard.)

And hand holding:

And there was lots of playtime:

And, when Lily was sleeping and therefore unable to hold Rory herself, Auntie got some cuddle time in:
We miss you already Auntie - please come back soon!

Da Golf Store!

Bumpa came up for a visit and took Lily on a fabulous adventure to his favorite store... the golf store. He tempted Lily with the promise of "cars" to drive...

(She's hiding from the rain in this one!)

Balls to hit...

And all kinds of things to play with...

Plus, he took her out to lunch! A little girl's dream day, apparently, as when she got home, she immediately told me that we should go back there tomorrow!

First playtime together

Lily just can't get enough of being close to Rory... She will literally try to take her out of other people's arms to have a chance to hold her. She spent this whole playtime trying to snuggle with her and bringing her baby toys, one after the other, and showing Rory how to play with them. So sweet!

Rah Rah Carolina!

Go Heels!!!

I wasn't prepared for this!

Everyone warned us that Lily would regress once Rory arrived. That she would be needier, more demanding, more dependent. And that all made sense. She's been "playing baby" for months now. And so we tried to prepare for that.

But so far, we've experienced the opposite. Ever since we got home, Lily has been more independent than ever. Two weeks ago, she would have had a meltdown at the suggestion that she take OFF her own clothes, go to the bathroom by herself, or entertain herself in the playroom for a few minutes while I got something done. And forget about going upstairs alone to retrieve some forgotten thing. But now? Now she's getting dressed all. by. herself. Going to the bathroom all. by. herself. Running upstairs to get a toy or book she left in her room. Running to get a diaper, or burp cloth, or blanket for Rory. Playing alone for stretches of time while Rory eats. It's amazing how much she grew up, without us even asking her to.

LilyBug, we are SO proud of you!

(Lily, trying out her new stool "in MY kitchen. Dis is where I need it!")

Gardening with Grammy

Grammy & Lily spent the day together on Friday. They walked up to W*l-Mart with Lily's wagon and bought dirt and flowers to plant a new garden by our mailbox. They even stopped for lunch "at a west-er-want" - one of Lily's most favorite things to do. And then they came home and planted the flowers. Lily had the best. day. ever!!!

The most fun of all was filling up the new watering can that Grammy bought for Lily:

Lily picked out orange lilies and purple petunias, in honor of herself and her baby sister. Grammy showed her how to plant them, and Lily was a v ery willing student. She likes digging in the dirt! She even liked the two baby snakes they found (*mommy shudders*)!

It's Lily's new job to water the flowers every day...

Thanks for a fun day Grammy! Lily loves you.

A Family of Four

Rory - April 2009

Lily - June 2006

At first, I didn't think they Rory looked like Lily, but with each passing day, I see more of it. And I don't think it was just the hand-me-down onesie!

So proud!

Outside the doctor's office, we ran into another family with a newborn. Lily took one look at them and announced, "I have a baby too!"
