The sweetness that is Lily....

Mommy: Lily, I'm sorry I'm no fun right now. Mommy doesn't feel very good.

Lily: What is hurts?

Mommy: Mommy is just tired, and I don't think I'm going to feel much better until baby sister comes out.

Lily: Is it March today?

Mommy: No, it's not March yet.

Lily: Should I take baby sister out of your tummy and put her in MY tummy so you don't have to hold her any more??

LilyBug, I think that's the nicest offer anyone has ever made me!

Goin' to a birf-day party!

I think it's safe to say that Lily has her 1st best friend... Lillian, a girl from our fabulous play group. The girls have been spending time together since they were about 6 weeks old, and have grown to truly be friends. They always seem genuinely excited to see each other. Whenever we head to playgroup, Lily asks if Lillian will be there. Lillian calls Lily "Lily Sophia", so that we won't be confused! And there are always crazy hugs when the two have to say goodbye. They have similar personalities and even look a little alike. I love to see the two of them, with their matching long blond hair, holding hands and running to play together, giggling.

Especially fun is the fact that their birthdays are only 4 days apart. So this weekend we got to go to Lillian's birthday party! Lily was so. very. excited!!! I think this is the first birthday party she has gone to where she actually understood where we were going and why. She had to pick out just the right thing to wear- a dress & tights of course! - and was beyond excited to help me wrap Lillian's gift. Here she is, all set to go - "Is it time to go to Lillian's NOW Mommy??"

When we arrived, Lillian showed Lily her room and the girls took a quick, pre-party nap in Lillian's crib:

Then Lily tried to take over Lillian's playroom, starting with the play dough:

Lily really wanted to help Lillian open her gifts, but she managed to restrain herself... barely!

This is the amazing gumball machine cake that Lillian's mommy made:

Here's the birthday girl, while we sang - Lily is behind her on the couch, thinking about singing:

Is it time for cake???

And then the kids got to play with what Lily called the "Pin-in-ad-da"! The confetti was the biggest hit of the whole party!

And then it was time to say goodbye... with hugs:

And kisses:
(I missed the kiss on camera, but it did happen!)

And then they knocked each other down....
Happy Birthday, Dear Lillian!
Lily is so glad to have you as a friend.

Odd Child...

...At dinner tonight, given the choice between fresh fruit salad and frozen peas, Lily chose the peas. I don't get it, but at least we've found ONE vegetable that she'll eat!

What we do when Lily's in charge...

"Mommy, we're havin' a picnic!"

"Look Mommy, I have LOTS of ess-ess-or-ies!"

"Mommy, take my picture!"

"Mommy, take Sout's picture!"

"Mommy, take a picture of you AND me AND Sout!!"

"Mommy, make a moooo-vie of me!"

Actually, it's a pretty nice way to spend an afternoon.

A new request

As she hands someone her ukulele, "Do you want to mess up a song?" I'm going to hope she means 'MAKE up a song!'

Birthday morning

When we went in to get Lily up, she greeted us with "NOW is it time for my birf-day?" She was so. very. excited! I know that because she kept saying "I'm so ess-cited!"

This is when she came down the stairs and discovered Daddy's decorating efforts from the night before:

Here she is, having found her new picnic table:

And enjoying breakfast at it with Daddy:

We opened gifts in the morning before the party:

Lily's been really into guitars ever since a recent trip to a music store with Daddy. She's been strumming a computer keyboard and calling it her "kit-tar". So choosing a birthday gift was easy this year. What we actually got her is a child's ukulele. Even kids' guitars are almost as big as she is, but this is just the right size!

Here she is opening it - excited much???

After a few minutes of "performance anxiety", here's her first attempt at playing it:

And a special concert that she was putting on, just for Auntie:

Good times...

Birthday Party

I think the Bug's 3rd birthday party was a success. Some people were sick or out of town, so it was a relatively small crowd this year, but Lily had a blast. And, since this might be the 1st birthday she actually remembers, I think she will have good memories of it...

No mommy, I don't want my picture taken with you:
Oh, okay, I'll smile just ONCE:

The decorations & food:

Lily eating lunch at her new picnic table with her friends, Lillian & Wyatt:

And playing footsie under the table with Wyatt - so cute!

Choosing a cupcake:

Actually enjoying being sung to! (Last year she was afraid.)

Blowing out her candle:

MMMMmmmm.... Cupcake!

Eating can be serious business:

Opening her gifts:

Scoutie, wishing she could be part of the festivities:

LilyBug, trying out one of her gifts:

A goodbye hug for her best friend, Lillian:

I hope everyone had a good time- I know LilyBug did!
Happy birthday, Sweetpea!
