Lily the Turtle

She got a little shy when I got the camera out, but for a good 20 minutes tonight, in between bath and bed, Lily entertained us as a "little turtle" in a blue laundry basket shell:

She would ony respond to the name "little turtle". Hilarious!

Why 2-year-olds shouldn't dress themselves...

No one tells Lily what to wear - at least not with any real success!

Here's what Mommy thought she should wear on a day when it SNOWED in Raleigh:A nice long sleeved shirt and corduroy overalls. Warm & toasty, and very cute.

Here's what Lily thought she should wear instead:That's a tank top, jean skirt, too-small tights and high heels (on the wrong feet). Awesome! Luckily, our plans for today include staying home, reading stories and playing with toys, so we don't have to fight this battle today.

Silly, silly, silly...

To Daddy, measuring tape in hand, "I pwob-bly need to measure your back and see what time it is."

(Pause to examine measuring tape, spread across Daddy's back.)

"26 pounds!"

Uh... okay Bug!

"Take my picture!"

Per her request, and after she got out the camera, removed it from its case and handed it to me:

She really loves her new jammies - I think she just wanted to show them off!

Latest Lily-isms

Our funny, funny girl. Here are some of her latest...

"I love myself so much!"
-While putting herself to bed in my bed, complete with story & song, when she got to the part of the song where I usually say "Mommy loves you so much!"

"Does dat make you fwust-er-weighted?"
-To me, when Scout was whining incessantly for her dinner.

"Im jus' bein' a little challenging."
-When I asked her why Daddy had put her in time out.

"Do you know what your daughter did?!?"
-Her new greeting when Daddy arrives home from work. I guess maybe I say that once in awhile, or every single day!

"I'm jus' LOOKIN"!!"
-Whenever we tell her not to touch something. She says his even though the object is in her hand, and with total outrage.

"Leave me alone. An' shut da door all da way!"
-Her new request when she goes to the bathroom. Now, if only she'd give us the same privacy! Although, it still cracks me up that she applauds for me whenever we're in a public restroom. Think the other patrons are as amused??

And, in continuing with her theme of being a little stickler for the rules...

"I have dat on da way to kinner-musik an' we're not goin' there, so I can't have any."
-When I offered her some orange juice when she was sick. OJ is usually a special treat that we only have on the way to Kindermusik, to get her blood sugar up. She could not be convinced to drink it, even though she loves it.

"No! Now you put me in my crib!"
-When our friend Miss Christy, who was babysitting Lily one night this week, offered to sing her a 2nd song at bedtime. She usually only gets one. Christy said she looked at her as if she was crazy.

Silly, silly girl. We love you so much. Thank you for these extra laughs!

We had a good run...

According to her ticker, Lily is 2 years, 8 months, 3 weeks, and 6 days old today. And for 2 years, 8 months, 3 weeks and 5 days of that time, she's never really been sick. She's never had an ear infection, no fevers. She's had a few runny noses, but not even really a cold, and certainly nothing that has really slowed her down. But that run ended today.

When Shawn went in to get the Bug up, a truly pathetic little girl greeted him, and then threw up. She's not running a fever, but she's certainly not herself. She won't eat. All she has wanted all day is to be wrapped up in a blanket and held. For 5-10 minutes at a time. Then she thinks she feels better, climbs out of my lap and wanders around aimlessly and glassy-eyed for a couple of minutes, before asking me to wrap her up and hold her again.

The downside of having never been sick before is that Lily really seems equally as confused as miserable. I feel so bad for her.

Here's a couple of pictures from Saturday morning, when she was still feeling like herself. She, along with Penny, Big Baby and Little Baby, were perusing catalogs, looking for Christmas gift ideas:

Horse Show Playgroup

For something new & different, today our playgroup met at the Fairgrounds for a horse show. It was free, outside on a gorgeous fall day and something different for the kids to do. At first, they were very impressed by the horses jumping.

And then, they discovered the folding chairs, and spent a good 45 minutes climbing all over them:
Wyatt & Lily, trying to keep the chairs from folding up on them!

We moved outside after awhile, to watch the horses that were in the warm up ring. When I asked Lily later what her favorite thing was, she told me "da benches!" I think she liked being able to stand up on them!

Lily & Lillian had to spend some time hugging it out...

Lily had a blast, but she was certainly disappointed to learn that she wasn't allowed to ride these horses.

"Jus' hidin'!"

While we were doing some yard work this weekend, Lily found a nice hiding spot in the "bushes" (tree branches that Shawn had trimmed). She was pretending to be Sal, from Blueberries for Sal, and was sitting in the bushes, eating all the berries she could reach. So sweet!

Lily the Construction Worker

We took a walk back to the construction near our house and let Lily have a blast climbing on the "BULL-duh-zers". Totally not against the rules, I'm sure. But she had a blast!
