One month later

As Leo the Late Bloomer (one of Lily's favorites) would say, "I made it!"I blogged every day for a month! I thought it would be harder than it was. But I underestimated Lily's ability to amuse and intrigue me. There is always a new story to tell, a new picture to share. Lily, you are the funniest, silliest, most interesting person I've ever known. Thank you for being such a fabulous muse!

The search for the perfect tree

Today was a big day... We got our Christmas tree. Of course, this isn't Lily's first tree, but she had a lot more fun with the whole experience this time around. First off, she picked out her outfit, including a sweater that's too cute for words and also way too big. But it has this adorable matching hat and Lily was rather insistent.

When we arrived at the farmer's market, Lily thought we were going on a hike. There were literally thousands of trees there, so I can't really blame her for thinking we were in a forest. She had a blast running through the aisles of trees:

And not surprisingly, she wanted to hug each and every tree.

She also kept trying to put pieces and branches from the ground back onto the trees.

And best of all, Santa was there:

Lily even helped us decorate when we got home. It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

New Shoooos!!

That's my girl...
Lily got new shoes today. Fancy, black patent-leather party shoes. For the Christmas party she's attending this weekend (with Santa!). She was pretty excited.
All day long she's been wearing them, stomping and dancing around the house, announcing "New Shoooos! Walking!!"
After her nap, she wanted to put them back on, but since we had tried them on in the store with no socks on (her socks were too thick), she refused to wear them with socks. Threw a royal fit. So I told her that she has to wear her new shoes with tights. No problem there - she loves tights!

So here she is, in all her glory - a t-shirt, her wild tights and her NEW SHOOOOS:
Lily, you're such a goofball! I love it!

For the record, I offered her a skirt or a dress, but she refused. Oh, and right now she's walking around in footie jammies, with her feet crammed into her fancy shoooos.

Where's Lily??

Where is she??Playing hide & go seek...
...her new favorite game. She especially loves it when it's time to get dressed! "One more?" She says, in between each item of clothing. Getting dressed take awhile these days, but it is more fun. (Thank-you , Lily, for reminding Mommy to slow down and have fun...)

So far, she's not so good at finding hiding places! Like here, where she's "hiding" in the powder room, but running in and then right back out:Mostly, her favorite part is hearing us repeatedly say "Where's Lily?? Where is she??" and her chance to say "BOO!" when she jumps out.

Playing Dress up

Lily & I took Auntie Erin to play at Marbles,
where Lily finally discovered the dress-up area:

And the stage:

She does love to make an entrance!

Christmas gifts

Lily doesn't need anything - her life is pretty good. But for those people who have been asking what she might like for Christmas, here are a few ideas:
  • Amazon wish list (click here)
  • Another semester of Kindermusic
  • Her very own membership to Marbles (the Children's Museum), so we can go whenever she wants
It's also worth mentioning that Lily doesn't watch any TV at all, so her parents would prefer that she not get any gifts that have TV or movie characters. Plenty of time for that later!

She's a lover not a fighter!

Like most tiny people, Lily hates to give up anything that she is holding on to. She can be persuaded (or hoodwinked?) to relinquish the cherished object if allowed to hug it, kiss it, and say "Nigh nigh" to it. The following is a list of things that Lily has been observed hugging and kissing in the past few days:
  • Me (Auntie Erin!)
  • Mommy
  • Daddy
  • Scoutie
  • The hat she's wearing in this picture:
  • Her stuffed turkey
  • Her baby doll
  • Mommy's lip gloss
  • My unopened package of gum (mmmm.... raspberry mint)
  • Loooooocy
  • Bumpa (Grandpa)
  • Daddy's hammer
  • The slightly frightening animatronic horse at Target
  • A container of bath salts at Target
  • A soccer ball at Target
  • The loofahs at Target
  • The stuffed Hello Kitties that she snuck into Mommy's cart at Target
  • Roll of wrapping paper at Target
(After that we had to leave Target!)
  • Lucy's leash
  • Kevin's stroller
  • All the cell phones that she can find
  • My ipod (which she then proceeded to hide)
  • Her Santa Clause place mat
  • 1 of the 3 Wisemen
  • The lawnmower
  • Numerous teddy bears
  • My sweater (that she has been calling a blanket)
  • New diapers
  • Mittens
  • Assorted rocks, leaves and pinecones (on our hike, in her backyard, and her pet rock that lives in her wagon, in the garage)
The Moral of the Story: If you see Lily coming, pucker up and hide your valuables!

I am Thankful...

For my sweet girl:

(And also for amazing North Carolina weather that allowed us to spend our Thanksgiving morning hiking!)

Lily is Thankful...

I think Lily is most thankful for her Auntie Erin:

Or maybe for Lucy!

Happy Thanksgiving Everyone!

Toddler Interpretations

She's very literal these days...

Lily drinks soymilk. On Sunday we ran out, and all they had at the store was the Vanilla-flavored kind, which I don't usually buy. Lily was drinking it down like it was going out of style. I was curious, so I tasted it and said it tasted just like a "milkshake". Lily grinned and started shaking her milk cup like a mad-woman.

Lily is learning to count. We sometimes get to three. I was pointing and counting to something in a book and then told Lily it was her turn to count. She was pointing, but not counting. So I asked her if she could count "outloud". She looked me right in the eye and screamed "AHHHH!!"

Lily, you crack me up...

Sweet Dreams Little One...

Baby mine, don't you cry
Baby mine, dry your eyes
Hold your head close to my heart, never to part, baby of mine

Little one, when you play
Pay no heed what they say
Let your eyes sparkle & shine, never a tear, baby of mine

If they knew sweet little you, they'd end up loving you too
All those same people who scold you
What they'd give just for the right to hold you

From your head down to your toes
You're not much, goodness knows
But you're so precious to me, sweet as can be,
Lily of mine

LilyBug, I wonder if these words will leave an imprint on you somewhere. You've heard them literally thousands of times by now. I hope that they will make you feel warm and safe and snuggly even when you're long past cuddling on my lap and in my arms.

I have more than one name??

Lily discovered today that she has a last name too and has been walking around all afternoon saying it over and over (and over) again! "Sophia" remains a mystery to her still.

PS. She didn't learn it because she was in trouble - I was cheering for her as she went down her slide, using her full name!

More Hike!

We went for another, longer hike yesterday morning. We figured that since we have Kevin's super cool backpack/stroller, we could go on a longer loop. Lily wasn't crazy about being contained however, so most of the time we were carrying an empty pack...
She did love climbing onto and jumping off tree stumps...
Scout was the hero of the day, making it the whole 2.75 miles in her cart, with no help from us!

A perfect moment

I wish there was a way to bottle moments like this. Shawn pulled the pillows and cushions off the couch and onto the floor. There was a pillow fight and lots of jumping and tumbling and so many giggles. The three of us and Scout, just playing together. Nothing particularly special about it, but I hope I never forget it.

Old Friends and New Friends

Kevin is one of Lily's newest friends. His mom, Andrea, is one of my oldest. Yesterday was the first time Lily & Kevin got to meet, and they had lots of fun together...

First, Kevin woke Lily up from her nap:
Then we put them in the bathtub together, to ensure that we'll have material to embarass them with in the years to come:Then Lily shared some of her toys:
Mommies & babies:
What's cuter than babies in their jammies??
Finally, Lily gave Kevin a hug before they both had to go to bed:
So cute!

Quotable Lily

What she's saying these days:

*Mommy SIT! Hee-ear! (pointing at a spot on the floor)

*Slow down! (As any car or truck goes barreling down our street)

*One-TOOO! (Everything comes in sets of two, apparently!)

*Ashes down! (Ring-Around-the-Rosey)

*Blue! (In response to "What color is this?" regardless of what color the item actually is.)

Lily dressed herself head-to-toe yesterday and between her
sweater vest, the khakis and her backpack, she was about the
preppiest toddler I've ever seen:

Most of the time these days her outfits even match! Mommy's so proud :)

Something is not quite right

Lily's attempt at putting on her own sweatshirt:"I seem to be stuck"
