She LOVES dogs

Not just Scout, but dogs. Holly was here this weekend and Lily couldn't get enough of her:

And in other dog-related news, this morning Shawn was scolding Scout for something and said "No! Bad Dog! Go lay down." and pointed over to her bed. Which prompted Lily to point to Scout's bed and said "Ba Do!" (Bad dog) Uh-oh. Poor Scout...

Just a couple pictures:

This is her new favorite pose - so silly!

Later that same day...

Lily, can you cry??Teething stinks. Can we cancel Lily's order? Six is plenty.

In totally un-related blogging, how cute is she in shorts and a t-shirt?? So grown up!

PS. Just so y'all don't think I'm completely cruel, you should know that I thought Lily looked adorable in this outfit, so I got the camera out to take a picture. When I asked her, just like this morning, if she could smile, she burst into these tears. And I felt bad, I did, but it was too funny not to get the picture. Lots of hugs followed.

Lily, can you smile??

"Yes, yes I can!"

Cheesy Smiles

I know it's blurry, but she wouldn't stay still - it's always a "drive-by" fake smile.

Empathy

Definition: The intellectual identification with or vicarious experiencing of the feelings, thoughts, or attitudes of another.

Our sweet girl has this one figured out. She's learned how to give real kisses, but she's incredibly stingy with them, if you're not a stuffed animal or her baby doll. But then yesterday, she was climbing over me and jabbed her elbow up under my collarbone and made me cry. And when Shawn told her "You have to be gentle with Mommy - you should give her kisses"... she did! So then, jealous, Shawn faked an injury and tears to get some sugar and it worked. She feels our pain... pretty cool.

Visit from "Uncle" Dave & Miss Chelsey

One of Daddy's oldest friends, Dave, and his girlfriend, Chelsey, came to visit last week and got to meet Lily for the first time. We had so much fun!At first Lily wasn't sure what to think of this big hairy guy in her house, but she warmed up to him:Of course, she had NO problem warming up to their dog, Daisy:We went to one of our favorite area parks and Lily tried to walk Daisy and Scout...
This park is a 2.25 mile loop around a small lake. Lily started out in her stroller, but eventually she really, really wanted to walk. So we got her out and she started walking, and kept right on walking. We think she made it over a half mile, which just seems crazy on those little legs. She took a very impressive nap after that adventure!

Last Swim Class

Lily's come a long way in six weeks! Here she is getting ready to get in the pool:
(For anyone who was starting to think that Lily looks like Mommy, rather than Daddy, just look at this photo!)

Here she is riding a noodle:
And here she is jumping into the pool and "swimming" back to the side, laughing all the way:

I think it's safe to say that swim class was a big hit!

Happy Birthday Daddy!

Lily was a big help opening presents this morning:
Happy Birthday Daddy!

More please!

Lily has mastered the sign for "more" and she does it all the time now. She asks for more food, more milk, more cookies (always more cookies!), and for mommy to blow more bubbles. She also asks for more "This little Piggie" and on Sunday asked Daddy to vacuum some more! I guess we need to work on some new signs.

(I just like this picture of Lily in her 1st jean jacket!)

Big shoes

Lily is so silly these days - we love it!! Here she is, showing off one of her new favorite things to do...

Lily is also really into reading books and sitting in our laps lately. This is one of those things that I used to daydream about when I thought about what motherhood would be like. I can't believe how my heart swells when this sweet little girl walks over to me, book in hand, and crawls into my lap. It's incredible. Everyone should have someone who makes them feel that good.

Shopping at Target

This will seem like a repeat of last week's video, but it's still a riot. Here's what we did on day two of Spring Break '07 (woo hoo!!!):

Our trip to Target was after tons of fun at Playgroup. Lily enjoyed introducing Auntie Erin to all of her friends. But, we had so much fun that we forgot to take any pictures.

Spring Break '07!!!

Woo hoo! Bet y'all didn't know that Hotel Hobbs is the hot new spring break destination. In fact, we are so cool that we now have some people attending for the 2nd year in a row. Okay, so far it's just Auntie Erin who thinks this is the place to hang out, but whatever.

Today, Erin & I took Lily out for the quintessential day in Chapel Hill. Erin likes to tell Lily that someday she too will spend the best four years of her life there, so we gave her a sneak preview.

After a stroll down Franklin Street, Lily walked across the entire quad, stopping to pick up leaves and put them back in the grass (because apparently that's where they belong) and to point at squirrels. She must think that they are just tiny dogs, because she kept barking when she saw them, like she does whenever we see a doggie. She refused to hold my hand most of the time because, you know, she's such a big kid these days. But she really liked hanging out with Auntie Erin.
.

On our way across campus, we stopped for a drink at the Old Well.(We didn't really drink because, well, ew!)

Then we had to stop so Lily could check out this dogwood tree. "Here's a flower Mommy!"

After that, we went shopping for Lily's very first Tar Heels t-shirt. It will probably come as no surprise that this girl loves to shop!

Lily would like to point out that it's true what they say - "Carolina Girls...""Best in the World!"
To finish, we had lunch at one of our favorite Chapel Hill restaurants, Breadman's.Seriously, breakfast all day - does it get any better than that???
(And check out those teeth - she's up to six!)

All in all, it was a fabulous day. We'll keep y'all posted on the madness that ensues during the Spring Break festivities.

PS. Auntie Carol, thanks so much for the cute dress - Lily got so many compliments on it!
