Lily's morning routine

She gets up between 7:30 and 8:00, has some breakfast and then likes to kick back and catch up on her reading...

She does this nearly every day, and usually narrates the story more than in this video. Oh, and the book is always upside down and she reads back-to-front. She's a silly girl.

It's just funny!

This is what Shawn came home to one night this week...

She's wearing a rosary as a necklace and that's one of my purses that she's carrying. I know everyone will think she learned this from me, but let me just point out that I haven't worn a necklace or carried a purse since she was born - I just started wearing earrings again last month! She's just a girl. But I do love it!

My Weekend with Daddy

So I know Mommy usually writes the posts, but she went off to play with her friends last weekend, so I got to play with Daddy the whole time. I'll tell you what, we had fun, fun, fun.

On Friday, when I woke up from my nap, Mommy had taken off for the beach. Did I tell you she went to the beach? Well, she did. She and Miss Chris threw Miss Kim a bridal shower a few hours down the road. Everyone knows that I am quite the party thrower, but I told them I couldn't possibly miss the opportunity to hang with my daddy. So anyway, I woke up from my nap and the painters were still here. Did I tell you we had our house painted? Well, we did. I told daddy that we should paint it the same color as my favorite pink uggs, but he said it would tank the resale value. I hadn't considered this and decided on a nice blueish-gray. I don't get too much blue in my life. I think it is on account of my SHGS. That's slow hair growth syndrome for those who don't suffer with this affliction, similar to restless leg syndrome but it's my hair and I'm restless that I have so little. So, as with many women my age, I feel the need to project my femininity and do so through the liberal use of the color pink (like my uggs). So daddy and I watched the painters and played in the yard until dinner. I love being outside, did I tell you that? Well, I do.

We had huge plans for Saturday. First I had swim class, which I'm already so good at, I didn't really want to participate. It was fun to be in the water, but swimming on my back was not in my plans for the day. What was in the plan was a trip to the park. There's this great park near where I swim, with a pond and trails and the BEST playground.

I loved exploring the castle and trying to climb up the slides. The passage ways were Lily-sized so I had to show daddy the way.

One of my favorite spots was a tunnel bridge where I could climb through or watch the big kids without daddy hovering to protect me from them.

After big fun playing, we had a picnic lunch. Here's one of me laughing at daddy making a complete fool of himself. Please ignore my hair though, I didn't feel like wearing my hat that day, so I got a scalp-load of sunscreen.

So after that, I got a nice nap in before a ride in my bike trailer up to the grocery store. Sunday, daddy was pretty worn out after one whole day with me (I've got to tell you, mommy has much more stamina) so we just hung out and played, with a quick trip to one of may favorite stores... Lowes!

So that was my weekend. I know everyone was worried about how daddy would handle being in charge, but I assure you, he's actually quite responsible.

"Beach" Beauties

Since last week's playgroup was so much fun, we decided to do it all again this week! Here are "the girls" - Ana, Lillian, Lily & Emily - chillin' in the sand at the playground. We loved how silly they all looked in their sun hats!
We really re-did everything from last week, including the sand eating...

Bold fashion choices

Way back when we were still referring to Lily as "The Stowaway", my little cousins - Amanda, Maggie, Mary Kate & Allison - sent her a tiny little pair of pink baby Uggs. I thought they were the funniest things I had ever seen.
This morning, I let Lily choose what she wanted to wear. She couldn't decide on pants, but she picked out the T-shirt Auntie Carol gave her for her birthday and her Uggs. I thought she wouldn't like actually having them on because, while the girl LOVES shoes and is forever trying to put mine on, she doesn't seem to like having her toes confined. But when one fell off, she brought it over to me and held out her foot. She really loves them! It's quite a look, but I think she pulls it off well. And she really thinks she's hot stuff walking around the house in her sassy little ensemble. She's the funniest girl I know!

We have a climber!

What fun is a toy if you just stand next to it??Oh dear... Looks like that 1st black eye won't be her last.

Playground Playgroup

We met our playgroup at a park today, and it was Lily's first chance to play on a real playground, outside. It was a gorgeous day and we had so, so much fun. First, Lily tried to share toys with her friends Lillian and Emily - not a big hit for any of them, frankly! And notice which child is refusing to wear a hat in the bright NC sun. Then, we tried out the swings. Lily loved it for about a minute and a half until she realized she wasn't walking and then cried to be set free.Lily spent most of the two hours we were there trying to master walking in the sand, and eventually did, after a few unsuccessful and hilarious attempts. I'm not sure how throwing her arms out like this helps keep her balanced, but who am I to argue?

Her most favorite thing was standing at the bottom of the slide and nearly being trampled by the big kids coming down. I didn't get a picture of that. But her second favorite thing was eating sand...
"What?? I don't have anything in my mouth - I swear!!"

Gardening

It has been so pretty here lately, so Lily's been playing outside - really playing - for the first few times. On Sunday, she was a big help to Daddy as he worked in the garden:She really was pulling weeds. Check it out:

But then, she tried to eat the dirt - it didn't taste the way she expected! So we tried blowing bubbles instead......Shockingly, those didn't taste much better.Today, we had playgroup at a park, and after lunch Lily treated herself to a dessert of grass - hey, at least I was able to get her to eat something green!!

My Nomination for Mother-of-the-Year...

... otherwise known as Lily's first black eye. She hit a drawer on her way down yesterday afternoon. It looks much worse today. Poor kid...

Swimming!

We had Lily's 1st swim class on Saturday. At first, she wasn't too sure about it.
But then she realized that a pool is just a giant bathtub. And then it was lots of fun. For Daddy too! Here she is kicking like a pro:

Playing Blog Catch-Up

I've been a bad blogger lately - sorry to the three or four of you who read this - so here's what Lily has been up to since her birthday...

We went to playgroup at a mall with a Merry-Go-Round a few weeks ago and Lily thought she'd died and gone to heaven. She had been on a carousal a few times with her Grammy when she was very little, so I think it felt familiar to her. At any rate, she had a fabulous time...Last Sunday was a rainy, cold day. And Daddy had a lot of time on his hands. So he built Lily what may well have been the world's best blanket fort, stretching from our front door all the way through the dining room and the foyer too:Lily and Scout had lots of fun crawling through and hiding in there...But Lily's hair had a bit of a reaction to the static! And then, since she so enjoyed the coziness of the fort, Lily hung out for awhile in her toy bin:Lily also tried out sharing her bath with her baby doll recently. She alternated between giving Baby kisses and trying to drown her, and had a great time (Lily, not poor Baby!).We just can't get enough of playing dress up around here. What else do you think we do all day when Daddy's at work? One of Lily's birthday gifts was her first bikini, from Great-Aunt Jeanne. She looks so silly in it!Oh and one more silly shot - here's our funny girl wearing Daddy's boots:Other fun stuff that I don't have pictures of... Lily has started Kindermusik classes and is a BIG fan. She loves the other kids, the posters in the room and the music (no big shocker on that last one). She is also expanding her "vocabulary" - she can do the noises for a lion, dog, sheep and bee. And she can point to her head, tummy, toes and nose (well, she misses on "nose" sometimes and sticks her finger in her mouth, but she's getting there). She flat-out refuses to do any of these things when I have the video camera out, so you'll have to take my word for it. Oh, and she's also climbing on everything - onto and off the furniture, the fireplace and the bookshelves - if only we'd let her! She'll even try to step on things (toys, books, me, whatever) to get onto something else. Oh dear...

Okay folks, I think that's it. Consider yourself updated!
