Too much??

A few months back, my friend Megan described her house as being on "Christmas Crack". We must have the same dealer... I didn't even know that there were this many Valentine's decorations available. Shawn & I were never big fans of the day, but we've decided to embrace our inner cupid in honor of our little Valentine girl. In case you've forgotten, Lily's first birthday is fast approaching and we are decked out in honor of it. Want to see??

Our front door:The mantle:
The door to Lily's room:The kitchen table:
(I have to give myself props for this - I made the sign above the kitchen table and I'm ridiculously proud of my fabulous idea to have it be reversible - the other side is a St. Patrick's Day sign... I know, I know, I'm a big ol' dork!)
.
The powder room:I even decorated Scout. Somebody stop me!!

It's no fun if there's no mess!

Lily playing in her toy cupboard:
And with mommy's shoes, which were all arranged neatly on the shelf in front of her - Notice that she's sitting in a shoebox!

Bathtime Goofyness

"What, do I have something on my face?"
"No more pictures Mommy!"

Playgroup Fun

Isn't this always the way... the party always ends up in the kitchen!

11 months old

Lily is changing so much every day lately that it's hard to keep up. Before our eyes, she is becoming a little kid, rather than a baby. Our big girl has moved into her new big-kid car seat and has given up her morning nap. She goes to sleep for her remaining afternoon nap and at bedtime without any "help" from us. And check this out - this weekend, we had lunch at Moe's, and Lily got her very own meal. She scarfed down that quesadilla and cookie like it was her job!!

Shawn & I are especially impressed with some new "complex" (according to www.babycenter.com) skills that she's mastered lately. She can put things in a box, bag, etc. and take them back out. She can also open and close doors, and the amazing thing is that she does these things when we ask her to! If she's in the mood, she'll even hand something over to us when we say please. It's really pretty incredible how all of the sudden she just seems to "get" things. When we tell her no she shakes her head very seriously (and then usually keeps doing whatever it was) and when she's eating, she will sometimes put something in her mouth, shake her head and then spit it back out. Of course, she also shakes her head when she's dancing, so who knows, maybe she just like to jiggle her brain!

If you're in the mood for something funny, you should see her in the bathtub these days... she puts her face in the water and tries to blow bubbles. I guess it's a good thing that swimming classes start in a month - apparently she's ready!

And speaking of bubbles, Lily loves to blow raspberries on tummies. Later in life this may be a problem, but right now it's hilarious that every time she sees a bare belly, she crawls right over and tries to tickle (which actually hurts, but you have to laugh anyway) and gives her best effort to blow raspberries. It's a very slimy process, but totally worth it.

She cut another tooth this weekend, so we're up to four, with a couple more on their way. Lily tries to be happy, but the teething and the cold she has right now make it tough.

We spent last week (and my birthday) at Grammy & Grandpa's house. Lily had a blast, especially since their dog, Holly, loves to play with Lily & doesn't run and hide like Scout does - poor Scout is still adjusting to being a big sister.

Here's Lily, doing a crossword with Gramps:
She & Grandpa also got in some good play time:Here she is sampling Grammy's blueberry pancakes:
And showing Grammy how much she appreciated them (nothing like baby kisses - all slobbery and juicy!):We also went to visit Auntie Erin at school. We got to fill the kids in on Quinn's progress - see the picture her kids took here. At that point I thought he was in the clear and the kids cheered when they heard that he was at home with his mommy & daddy. When I thanked them for the sign they made and said that it helped Quinn get better, one little boy shouted out "I didn't know paper could make somebody better!" Lily thought the big kids were pretty cool, but Auntie Erin, with her oh-so-flashy ID badge, remained her favorite:
We visited with Lily's friend Hunter & his parents, and finally got a picture of Lily & Hunter together (this was the 3rd time they'd met):We had a great time, as always, but it sure was nice to get back home. Now if we could just kick this cold and for-the-love-of-god(!!!) stop teething for just a day or two we'd be golden! Here's one last picture of our sweet, sleepy, sick little girl, sounds asleep and snuggling with her puppy:

Dancing Queen

It's sideways (because mama's a moron!) and short, because Lily danced with such enthusiasm that she bumped her chin, leading to much crying and drama. But here she is...

Words that Lily knows

Our girl is developing quite the little vocabulary for a kid who can't talk. Here are some of the things she's surprised us with understanding lately:

Animals & toys:
Lily will crawl to and pull out these toys if we ask her where they are

  • Baby (her new baby doll that she got for Christmas)
  • Lion
  • Turtle
  • Elephant
  • Duck
  • Santa (from the Christmas decorations that are now packed away)
  • Flip-flop

Action words:

  • Kiss - Lily will kiss people, but she prefers to kiss her baby or her bear.
  • Clap - See the video we posted last week...
  • High-five - This one doesn't happen every time we ask, but she's working on it.
  • Shake - As in "Lily, shake the maracas!"
  • Bounce/Dance - The girl's got rhythm.
  • No - We know that she knows this one as it usually results in her stopping whatever she's doing and bursting into tears. Such a little drama queen!

Food words (the words that get Lily REALLY excited):

  • Water
  • Milk
  • Cheerios
  • Cookie

People words:

  • Scout
  • Daddy
  • Mommy... actually, this one is still wishful thinking. When we ask Lily "Where's Daddy?" or "Where's Scout?" she looks right at them. But if we ask her "Where's Mommy?" she just as likely to look at Scout as at me. Sigh...

Teeth

Lily has a top tooth now (it broke through last night), and after all those months of being toothless, she has several more on the way. Our girl is a little cranky, but has been taking this whole teething thing in stride. Although she is a big fan of baby oragel and teething tablets...

Bald, who's bald?

It may not look like much to the untrained eye, but our girl is starting to get some hair! Here she is after her bath tonight...

Cousins!

Lily got to visit last week with mommy's cousins, Sunny & Amy, and Sunny's daughter, big- cousin Ashley (Auntie Erin joined in the fun too). We had so much fun, especially watching the girls play together, and especially at the mall...

Rockin' New Years Eve

Lily has lots of tricks that she can do, but most of them are still out of context. She can wave, give high five, give kisses, clap, and the newest one is shaking her head "no". She doesn't consistently do any of them at the correct time, but they are all ridiculously adorable!

But last night to celebrate the New Year she crawled down off the ottoman feet first (this is a big deal since she normally tries to go face first and she did it based on only verbal commands) and Shawn and I cheered for her - "Yay Lily!" and she clapped!! It was awesome. And then, to prove that she understood, she did this...

She is simply amazing!
