What's wrong with socks??

I don't know, but Lily has developed a new and vehement dislike of them. But only in the car. Her main task when we're driving is screaming like crazy while trying to remove her socks, and then chewing on them. I don't have a picture of her oh-so-proud expression once she's gotten them off, but here's a couple of cute ones from today: Charina, if you're reading this, Lily says thank-you for the pretty dress! :)

Click-thru's and prayers

I don't know how many of you do this (Shawn makes fun of me for it), but I often click through the links on other people's blogs. I like to read about other people's kids and what they're doing. It's endlessly fascinating to me, and I suspect that I'm not the only one. But in case I am, I wanted to draw attention to one of Lily's friends. Quinn is Lily's newest friend, born this week to Stephanie and Dan, who Shawn went to grade school and high school with. (And Steph and I once had some fabulous adventures in London & Scotland.) Little Quinn is having a rough time of it right now. So, in whatever manner you pray or meditate or send positive thoughts, I'm sure Quinn and the new parents would appreciate it.

First Tooth

5 months after our first false alarm, and at 9 and a half months, Lily has cut her first tooth! We discovered it when she bit Grammy's finger. I doubt we'll get pictures any time soon...

And we are thankful!

This year, we are thankful for Lily. But here's what Lily is thankful for...

Real food!

And choo-choo trains!

And glasses!
And excersaucers
(thanks Aunt Cassie!)
And drawstrings!
But I think Lily is MOST thankful for dogs:

Some Pictures

Mommy's been horribly sick with food poisoning for the past 4 days (I thought Moms couldn't get sick??!!), so forgive us for the lack of blogging. But here's some pictures of Lily having some silly fun this weekend with the men in her life:

9 months in, 9 months out

I know that everyone says this. I know that I keep saying it. But I really, really don't know where the time has gone. It's unbelievable to me that our little girl has been with us now for as long as I was pregnant with her. I just can't understand how this little lump that we brought home from the hospital:
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
.
is now this amazing little person!

And she has changed so much in the past couple of weeks, it's hard to keep up. She claps now, and gives high-five. She waves (though not at the right times!) and gives mommy kisses. She laughs when we laugh as if to say "I get the joke too!" And honestly, she giggles ALL. THE. TIME. And she understands so much of what we say. She looks at Scout when we say her name, and the Turkey on the mantle when we ask where the turkey is. She has done the signs for "milk" and "more" a handful of times, and she responds to several others. She crawls up and down stairs and cruises along the furniture. She is a champion crawler - so fast!

She eats like a champ too, though you'd never know it to look at her. Tipping the scales at ALMOST 17 pounds (soaking wet), Lily is still a little peanut. But the girl can eat. She loves grapes, fig newtons, egg yolk "omlettes", turkey, string cheese and cheerios. But her favorite thing may be pickles - the kid can't get enough. We only have those at dinner though, right before her bath, because the scent of dill is inescapable after she's eaten one. And nope, still no teeth. Clearly, Lily doesn't see that as a real obstacle!

Lily loves bath time, and now that she has free reign of the big tub, it's even more of a party! There is lots of kicking and splashing and singing along to our bath time cd (What, not every kid bathes to Bobby Darrin??). I have got to sign this child up for swim lessons!

Our baby girl still loves music - anything and everything. Toys that sing are her favorite. And she's starting to "dance" (bounce, bounce, bounce) when music comes on. Cracks me up.

But maybe the best changes are little things... Lily crawls into my lap when she's tired. She snuggles with us before bed in the rocking chair. She gets excited when Daddy comes through the door after work.

I never know from one day to the next what will make Lily laugh and what will make her mad. But she sure does. This little one has a mind of her own and she knows what she wants, and she is not afraid to let us know. It's kind of hilarious. Like when she cried because I took the Swiffer away from her. Who knew that a clean floor was that important to her?? Or when we're eating and she wants to share - she makes a funny grunting noise that turns into a squeal. Drama queen! Or tonight at dinner, when she was clapping for herself after each bite and got so frustrated when I didn't. So she reached over and pulled my hands together, to encourage me to applaud her too. She's so funny. She really is a little person now, and while we loved our little lump, this is even better.

Sorry - very important call - I have to take this!

I think I have fixed the video problem - hopefully everyone can view them now. Let me know if you can't!

9 month portraits

We have gone every month to get Lily's portraits taken, and for about the past 6 months we've had the same photographer take them. She's fabulous, and Lily thinks she's very funny. Or she did, until today. The first couple of pictures were fine, and then Lily suddenly realized that there was a "stranger" in the room and burst into tears. So these are not as good as usual... I guess we have stranger anxiety now!

Giggling and talking and cruising, oh my!

Computer Whiz

Funny story: Lily loves the laptop. She can't get enough of the clackity sound the keys make. But she's banned from touching it now. First, she pulled the "E" of the keyboard. (It's very hard to type now.) And just the other day I foolishly let her "help" me as I was checking my email. As she was clicking the mouse keys, she did something to reset the internet settings and changed the font and something else, so everything looks all funny in the browser window. I can't figure out what she did or how to un-do it! She's already outsmarting me...

Today was a gorgeous day and Shawn had a day off of work, so we had a picnic in the park and went for a long walk with the girls. Scout got tired about halfway around the lake, so Lily gave her a ride the rest of the way:
Mommy got a heck of a workout pushing about 60 pounds up those hills!

What do we do...

Lily and I, while Daddy's at work all day? Play dress up, of course! Lily's Grammy gave her this very silly tu-tu so today we had a fashion show!
It's even cute from behind

On her tippy-toes - a future ballerina?

YAY!!!

Ballerina girl with her ballerina bear...

Oooh! TOES!!!

I'm outta here Mom!

The World's Tiniest Mohawk

When she's wet, her hair is almost visible!

First Cold

Well, we made it almost 9 months without Lily getting sick, which is amazing, but this weekend she had a heck of a cold. She was so sweetly pathetic with her stuffy nose. And she hates having her nose wiped so very much - twice this made her cry so hard that she threw up. Charming! Fortunately, she seems to be on the mend.

It got crazy-cold here this weekend, so we had to get a winter hat for Miss Thang - here she is, modeling it and her poor little red nose:
