New pictures

We just can't help ourselves!

Mommy loves getting me dressed now that some of my clothes actually fit! I seem to like it too...

Lily is getting bigger - she's 9.5 pounds now, but just to keep things in perspective, here she is wearing Daddy's shoes... They are nearly as long as she is!

Swaddle, Schmaddle

Our little escape artist refuses to stay "tied down". We recently even bought a Miracle Blanket to try and contain her, but so far it's less than miraculous. However, we will keep trying. Why, you ask? Because, when properly swaddled, Lily will sleep for 7 hours in a row at night!!! This has happened a lot lately and the nights when it doesn't Lily wakes me with a different sort of cry, irritated rather than hungry, and I find her with her legs out of the blanket and cold... I don't know how she does it! But we will continue to try and outsmart her - wish us luck!

A mom's-eye view...

Lily lives in her sling these days, so this is what I see:

Here are a whole bunch of pictures from our trip to Charlotte - Lily's first road trip!! Grammy & Grandpa's house is a three-hour drive away and it was just us girls going, so I was pretty nervous. But Lily slept the whole way, both times! I consider myself very, VERY lucky!

I love my play mat!!!

So does Grammy!

More visitors

Lily's Great-Uncle Tom and Great-Aunt Tracey came to visit from Rochester with their kids, Kathleen, Sean & Molly. It was such a nice visit, even if Lily was a little out of sorts. I didn't get nearly as many pictures as I would have liked, due to Fussy McCranky-Pants, but here is one of Uncle Tom trying to soothe the little one:

Lily had a wonderful weekend, visiting with Lauren & Larry, all the way from Michigan:

She really enjoyed playing X-Box with the boys... Can you find Lily in this picture?

We also had a cookout with Lily's favorite Raleigh friends, Kim & Chris. Miss Lily was in great spirits on Saturday (though she didn't like mommy's attempt to get a pedicure) and had lots of fun at the party...

2 month letter

To my little Lily-bug:

You have become such a little person in the past month! You are a happy, happy little girl most of the time. In the past couple of days you have discovered your voice and started to squeal and say something that sounds like "ba!" You smile for just about anyone, but you seem to reserve the most grins for your daddy.

You love your exercise mat - the star sings to you and you smile and coo. You've learned to kick it yourself to make the music play. You also discovered your mobile last week - you love to watch the butterflies fly in a circle as that music plays. It's amazing to watch your little eyes take it all in. All of this seems to mean that you love music - mommy's bad singing included. You smile to my off-key renditions of Billy Joel and you especially loved hearing mommy & Daddy singing "Daydream Believer".

You like to take a bath, but you are inconsolable and scream like the devil when we take you out of the warm water and you get cold.

You are SO STRONG! You have already rolled over, you hold you head up, and you could push yourself right off of my lap with your legs! And forget trying to put your arms somewhere that you don't want them.

It's much easier to get up at night, now that it's you calling me instead of the alarm clock. We have some good cuddle time during your nighttime feedings. But you are a good sleeper - sometimes you sleep for 6 or 7 hours at night and you are always happier on the days when you've had a nice long stretch of sleep the night before. Like mommy, you seem to like your sleep!

My most favorite thing you do is when I'm feeding you and you stop eating long enough to look right at me and smile. It's as if you're saying "thanks mom" and it just melts my heart. I love you more than I ever thought I could...

1st shots

Lily had her 2 month check-up yesterday, which included her 1st shots. She's up a pound to almost 9 since our last visit! She remains in the 10th percentile for weight, but she's gaining consistently, so she's likely to just be tall & skinny like her dad. She's 22 inches "tall" now. The shots (3 of them) made her VERY mad - her whole head turned red and she cried some big tears. So did mommy - Daddy was much more composed! But Lily calmed right down and had no other reaction later.

Here she is, fully recovered and grinning at her Dad:

Yes, that's a pink onesie, decorated with a circular saw, made by Auntie Erin & loved by Daddy!

New tricks!

I don't know if it counts, because I'm not sure that it was intentional, but Lily rolled from her tummy onto her back during "tummy time" this morning. She did it twice a couple of days ago, but she was propped up on a pillow, so I think that had more to do with gravity. But today it was all her... We'll have to see if she repeats this new trick!!

And in other new developments, Lily can almost fit her entire fist into her mouth... Sometimes she even gets the fingers that she's actually aiming for and seems to be learning to sooth herself, so mommy is becoming less of a human pacifier!

Lots of firsts!

Last week was spring break for Lily's Auntie Erin, who spent the whole week here with us. I felt unusually brave with all of the extra help, so Lily got to do lots of cool things for the first time:

*1st trip to Chapel Hill - she got to meet all of Mommy's friends at her old job.

*1st time in a resteraunt - where else but Top of the Hill?!

*1st movie - Erin & I took her to see "Failure to Launch" and she ate and slept through the whole thing!

*1st mommy & baby yoga class - Lily cried through most of it though.

Did we take pictures of any of these momentous firsts? No, we did not - we stink! But, take my word for it, Lily was a champ and loved every second of these adventures, except for the yoga class! (She liked it better this week though.) And we both loved having Erin here! Lily and Auntie Erin also came up with a personalized exercise routine, which is helping Lily hold her head up really high, and also do "pushups".

Also new are real tears when she cries, which is heartbreaking and actual coos when she's happy, which is amazing! Her gummy smiles are getting more frequent, and she gives them to just about anyone.

Lily's Baptism was this past Saturday, so we had lots of visitors.

Lily spent lots of time grinning at both her Grandpas and her Grammy, along with Uncle Eric and Aunt Melissa, who she met for the 1st time. Big cousin Evan didn't seem very interested in Lily most of the time, except when she was crying and he tried to rock her (so sweet!)

Lily also got to meet her great-aunt Carol and great-uncle Mike, and cousins Sunny, Nick, Ashley & Colleen. Lots of keen family fun!!

And these were just too cute not to post - here's Lily reading one of the books from "Auntie Erin's Book of the Month Club" , and Lily melting Grandpa's heart:
